    A Mother's Lament

Will the Writing Ever Be Enough?

Sometimes the problems just rain down

And holding it together is quite tough.

So you sit and search your brain for verb and noun

And pray to God the writing is enough

To hold back all the tears.

When you wonder what you're doing on this earth

While the one you love, no longer is around.

When it's hard to find a single thing of worth

    And unhappiness and misery abound

You write the plain, unvarnished truth.

If you can't explain your feelings to another

And find a shoulder you can cry upon

When the son has died and left behind the mother

She looks for the reasons why her boy has gone

And prays to God the writing is enough.
